Fine Arts Residencies

Students in grades 1 through 6 participate in 4-6 week residency programs involving the arts.

Grades 1-2
CircEsteem Residency

Students work with artists from CircEsteem and are engaged in circus arts instruction. CircEsteem’s curriculum is developed so that children of all ages and abilities can enjoy and equally participate in circus arts. CircEsteem’s methodology of teaching circus focuses on self‐expression, teamwork, developing self‐esteem, peer leadership and socially positive behaviors. Nonverbal communication, exaggerated gestures and spatial awareness will inform authentic group circus informances.

Grade 3
Lookingglass Theater Residency

Students work with artists from Lookingglass Theater once a week, participating in dramatic exercises related to a literature selection. At the end of the residency, all 3rd grade students host an "informance" for parents to showcase the skills they have learned during the program.

Grade 4
Poetry Residency

Students work with a poet in residence to learn about different styles of poetry. Students write their own poems throughout the residency, and poems are showcased at the end of the program in a creative manner.

Grade 5
Fulcrum Point Music Residency

Students view musical performances by artists from different countries. The artists also teach the students about the cultural origins of music and instruments from that country.

Grade 6
Unsilence Residency

Students work with a teaching artist to investigate various historical contexts in which voices of marginalized people were silenced through primary sources and then select a personal advocacy effort to highlight through the arts. The students use their artistic talents to create a final project to present to the school community.
